Halfway thru October already??? I've still got two projects to finish and the month is half over already????

The gift project was received yesterday (which I counted as finishing project number one). Some of the
Sampler Afghan-A-longers (SALlies) knit blocks to make a baby blanket for an expecting SALlies. Sarah is expecting her baby before the month is out and her blanket arrived yesterday.
Current WIPs
Pattern: Cables 101 Vest
Source: Twists & Turns
Yarn: Cascade 220
Color: Dark Green Heather
Needles: 5''s & 7's
Gauge: 20sts x 28 rows to 4" in st st
Not a great picture (hopefully, Sarah will have better luck photographing it). I did want to let Sarah know that the blanket got Gena approval on the layout
Pattern: Spring Forward Cardigan
Source: Twists & Turns
Yarn: Cascade Sierra
Color: pink
Needles: 7's
Gauge: 20 sts to 4" in moss st
Special Thanks to Siow Chin, Amy, Carrie, and Sylvie. I also got a block from Laura, but I turned that into a pillow (as I couldn't get a 10 block afghan to work).

I am thinking the
Cables & Garter Pullover will be finished by the end of the weekend. I'm rolling along on the sleeves and will spend the bulk of today on it. Then I can get back to working on my Cables 101 Vest. I think I can still get it done by the end of October... right?

I got a question (from Tori) about the problems I've been having with the Cable & Garter pullover.

First, let me say that I have found no errors in the pattern. My concerns with my yarn quanity is self inflicted... in other words, I'm not even sure how much yarn I had to start with, plus I'm making the small size, but with the medium length (which would throw the yardage requirements off). So don't panic if you already bought yarn to make this and now fear that the yardage is off on the pattern.

The neckline numbers were right (that's why I shouldn't knit late at night while trying to watch baseball...especially if there's counting involved), but I did change the width of the neckline. My personal taste is not to end in middle of a cable sections (as written, 2-3 stitches would've been cast off from the 6 stitch cable, meaning I wouldn't be able to do the cable over those stitches, and I just don't like the way that looks). This may only be a problem with the small size (as the picture on the pattern looks fine).

The front is done, the sleeves are started (I'm doing them at the same time), and I'm feeling better about my yarn yardage. Since it's a drop shoulder design, the sleeves aren't very long and I do have almost 3 complete skeins left (and Galway does have good yardage per skein). Fingers crossed, it may just work.

So the lesson here is: make sure you count how many skeins of yarn you have
before you start a project.

I did get a notice that Janet Szabo's
Big Sky Knitting/ Twists & Turns site is back online. It may take a day or two for all the DNS servers to get the change, so if it doesn't load, try again later (and be sure to refresh the page). Then we can all drool over the Shawl Collared Aran again (it's motivating me from starting something new...so far).
I will not discrimate against a yarn based on it's color, fiber, manufacturer, or retail outlet.

I worked exclusively on the Cables and Garter Pullover yesterday. I'm completely obsessed as to whether I have enough yarn to complete this project. I figure the only way to find out it to keep knitting, right?

I got to the neck shaping last night and tried to do it while watching the baseball game (not a good idea). I had to frog once, then just as I was going to bed, I noticed the cables weren't in the right place. Argh (when I frogged, I miscounted how many rows I had pulled back). There's only 4 cables, so I'll fix them by dropping stitches rather than frogging back again.

The other thing... I think there may be an error in the
pattern (I don't do math well, so it may be me), but if I had done the neckline as written, my neck shaping would've ended in middle of the cables section. I didn't want that, so I did change it to so the cable goes all the way up (hopefully I did my math right. Did I mention I suck at math: that's why I was an art major).
So I'll fix the cables today and get the front done. I'll do the sleeves and hope I have enough to do the neckband (normally I would do the neckband next, but it's depth is based purely on how much yarn I have).

I may try to get a few more rows done on the Cable 101 Vest today, I've been neglecting it (I know I have enough yarn for that one!)

Just a quick note to mention that Janet Szabo's Big Sky Knitting/Twists & Turns website is having some technical difficulties. The problem may take a couple of days to correct, but should be back soon.

Well, the good news is that I'm still keeping my committment to not starting any new projects. I'm only working on the 2 projects (Cables 101 Vest and the Cables and Garter Pullover). However, I'm not feeling like they're progressing.

I'm still a little concerned about the yarn I have for the Cables and Garter Pullover, but I waver. Sometimes I think I'll be fine and other times I panic and say "I'm going to run out of yarn". Only one way to find out: keep knitting on it (and I have been). I'm only about 2" before I hit neckline shaping. I can't believe how fast it's knitting up: I've only been working on it for 2-1/2 weeks and I have the back done and the front almost to neck shaping? Wow, that may be some kind of record for me.

Thanks to everyone that left comments about Matt's "shed". He's been working hard on it every weekend and most evenings and it's just about "winterized". Hopefully he can get the yard equipment out of the garage and into it before winter starts (then he can use the garage a little more comfortably for his woodworking).

The "shed" is huge, btw: it's 12' X 10' and it's one and a half floors (the upper section is for seasoning his wood). The other side of the building is a mirror (so there are two sets of the cedar doors and the dormer is the same with the 4 windows.

Well, today is laundry day and I have hopes of getting to the neck shaping on the Cable and Garter Pullover. Hopefully, I'll have some new knitting pics tomorrow.

I could sit here and talk about my knitting, but you've heard it before: I'm almost to the armhole shaping on the back of the Cables 101 Vest (I'm in no man's land: no matter how much I knit, it's not getting any closer) and I'm better than halfway on the front of the Cables and Garter Pullover.

I did finish up a project over the weekend, but I'm sorry I can't share it here (yet). I'll have pictures once the gift is received.

I wasn't the only one chugging along on never ending projects.
The Barn (it was supposed to be just a small out building to hold the yard equipment). It's getting close to being done (if you move your cursor over the pic you can see an other view).

Here's the Monday Morning Pet Photo.
