Knit Alongs
Who, me start a new project? Why would you ever think that????

I did start a "swatch" for a cardigan for Matt. So technically, it's not really starting... and we know that I like my swatches nice and large... say, the same width of a right front perhaps?? (I think this is why I like cardigans so much....heehee).
Current WIPs
Pattern: Cables 101 Vest
Source: Twists & Turns
Yarn: Cascade 220
Color: Dark Green Heather
Needles: 5''s & 7's
Gauge: 20sts x 28 rows to 4" in st st
Basically it's my favorite Sampler Cardigan pattern by Sarah James, but with 2X2 ribbing instead of the seed stitch. I'm doing it in Cascade 220. The pattern says "sportweight", but in fact it swatches up as for a DK. The nice thing about 220 is that I like it at a DK weight, as it makes a nice dense fabric that's going to show the stitch definition well (I think).

See, that's just a swatch. Matt's not 100% sure about it yet. I think he can't visualize the change in ribbing (I think the cardigan will be fine for a guy, but I didn't think the seed stitch worked).

This really is a lovely pattern. I get a lot of wear from mine (but I do need to shorten the sleeves... one day). I still say this is the sweater pattern I would start a new knitter with. Simple knit and purl stitches, simple shaping yet it looks like a complex knit.

I actually had someone ask me how long I've been knitting to knit such a complex sweater... What?
Inishmore was a complex sweater, this was one of the easiest knits I've ever done.

Well, I'm procrasting on going to the grocery store...I guess I should go get dressed and head out so we have something to eat over the weekend. I might get my Thanksgiving supplies today too (I just have to feed 3 this year).

Pattern: Natural Beauty Fair Isle
Source: Family Circle Easy Knitting

I'm feeling a little better today. I foolishly did a hard workout yesterday morning and paid for it the rest of the day. I'll try a little less intensity today...

So not much knitting. I'm still playing a lot of
Halo 2 (big surprise, huh?), but I'm also suffering from a bit of startitis. I keep thinking of all those "to do" projects including an entralac/cabled sweater from Vogue Knitting from eons ago. In Blackwater Abbey yarns (it would be scrumptious in Iris). I know that the winter issue of Twists & Turns will be here this month and I know I'll want to immediately cast on for the Shawl Collared Aran... and I know that I should finish Matt's vest first (and I'm on the last big piece for it...) but my hands are itching for something new. Because new is better.

So I think I'll set up some goals and try to get at least one repeat done on the Cables 101 Vest today, then maybe treat myself to something fun... like swatching for the entralac/cabled sweater or maybe just fingering my stash... or finish this level of
Halo 2....

Blah. I know, my enthusiasm is contageous... here, let me say it again. Blah.

I feel like Krap. Nothing earth shattering wrong with me, but I'm tired and stuffed up. The kind of "ickiness" that makes you just want to crawl back under the covers and sleep. Okay, enough whining.

Had SnB last night and I got quite a bit done on my second sock. I'll probably work a bit on it again tonight while Matt plays thru
Halo 2 (I'm on my second time thru, so I'm trying to help him get thru the levels).

I got my new contacts yesterday and they feel great! I go back next week to make sure they're still comfy. I don't remember an eye doctor checking them this much with the exception of the very first pair I got back 20 years ago.

I did try on some jeans yesterday, which was a bit of a disappointment. I have this belief that designers design for 14 year old boys rather than for females. I have a fairly traditional female form. A true hour glass figure, yet all the jeans don't have waist shaping, or fullness in the butt. If they fit across my butt, the back of the waist sticks out about 3". I hate clothes shopping.

I obviously wasn't in the right frame of mind to shop, either, as I found all the styles of clothes ugly and all the Christmas krap irritated me. I think I'll mail order everything from now on.

Works for yarn, right? However, there's a new store in our area that
Nicole had mentioned called Frou Frou (?) that I may have to check out. I understand they carry some traditional yarns, and not just the novelty. I think we're also going to schedule a road trip to The Mannings early next year. Can't get to The Mannings often enough... it is the Stash Enhancement Zone!

First sock is done, and I really like doing the afterthought heel. It looks great with the self striping yarn. However, I've got to re-do it as my decreases have a very severe ladder (and I went too far on the decreases). So I'll probably pull it back and re-do it (I'm going to see how the mate goes before I frog this heel).
That's really the only knitting I did yesterday. I didn't get my contacts either (they didn't have space for me at the eye doctors, so I'm going today). I have a few other errands to do (I do really need to get a pair of jeans- the weight loss is really starting to effect my wardrobe. I guess that's a good thing; except I hate to go clothes shopping).

Tonight is SnB and I'll take the sock mate with me and maybe Matt's Christmas scarf.

My house is a mess, I'm in a crappy mood, I don't feel well and I really don't want to go out, but I also decided I really hate wearing glasses so I want to get my new contacts. The jeans may have to wait....

How the hell did it get to be mid-November??? Good thing I don't make Christmas gifts any more, or I would be in panic mode.

Instead, I'm working on the things I want to be working on (and yes, that does include
Halo 2).

I got the right front started with pattern set for the Cables 101 Vest. Have I mention how much I love this pattern? I decided to reverse two of the cables on the front so they mirror. Not that it shows yet:
Doesn't look like much yet, but I hope to get some more done today. I do have a few errands to run (including getting my new contacts).

Speaking of me and glasses, here's a picture from Saturday with some of my online knitting buddies at a little get together:
That's Joan, Janet, me and Rosie knitting. I had a lovely time (and Joan always makes me feel better about how many UFO's I have!) I will say that I don't like wearing glasses. I never realized how little I move my head to look. I feel like half of my vision is gone as the glasses don't cover my entire range of vision.

So what did I take to work on during the knit together? Well, a sock, of course. HAHAHA! Yes, I know I don't knit socks. It's not that I dislike hand knit socks, just the opposite, as a matter of fact. It's just that I find the interesting socks too fiddley and the easy socks boring. However, I love the self striping sock yarns and I actually have a lovely little stash of them. I figured it was just what I need to work on when I do my social knitting. I've been spending a lot of time "fixing" some of my other projects that I take with me (wrong direction cables, miscounting my patterns, etc).
It's a basic top down sock with an afterthought heel (which I like 'cause it doesn't break up the pattern of the yarn). I'm at the toe shaping on this one. Now let's see if I can make a second one (another problem I have with knitting socks).

I did take one other project with me: Matt's reversible cables scarf in the baby cashmere that I started last year as a Christmas gift. Maybe I'll finish it up for this Christmas?
I'm using the scarf pattern from the Simply Beautiful Sweaters for Men (which I now realize what a presumptious title that is for a book... I'm not sure the sweaters in this book are all that beautiful... but I do like this scarf). It's a simple (and therefore a little boring) knit with mostly 2x2 ribbing then a  cable every 12 rows.
I hope that Elann gets more of the baby cashmere yarn, as it is lovely to work with (and would've made great gloves to match...)

Well, lots to do today (ugh, gotta leave the house again) so I'm off to get my day started....
