Well the slipover vest that I started for Matt the other day is being abandoned. I was trying to use up some krappy acrylic in my stash, and not surprisingly, the vest was coming out like it was being made in an acrylic krap yarn. Oh well, it'll go back into stash and be used for an afghan one day.
So I started an other Cables 101 Vest. Why mess with sucess, eh? I'll convert it to a pullover and I'm making it in Woolease. I'm also making it at a tighter gauge than the pattern (mainly because I know Woolease is closer to a DK than the aran the band says it is). I know it will pill, but it is a soft yarn and I know Matt will be happy with it (as he loves the first one). Should be nice and warm and cozy for when he works in his wood shop.
I think every once in a while you find "perfect" patterns. The kind of pattern that was enjoyable to knit, can be done sucessfully in a variety of types of yarns and the resulting garment gets a lot of wear. I have 3 in my collection that I've either made more than once or I've started an other. With my short attention span, doing the same pattern more than once is unusual.
So what are these "perfect" patterns? Well, the Wonderous Woven Cables. Done twice with a plan to do one for me (probably in Cotton Fleece). The Sampler Cardigan and the Cables 101 Vest. These are all projects that I loved knitting, there's a lot of variety in what yarn I can use, and the finished garments get a lot of wear.
I'm curious if others have "perfect" patterns. Those projects that were just as enjoyable to knit as they are to wear... a pattern that you've used multiple times. Maybe I'll compile a list of "perfect" patterns.

After some discussions, we decided that slipovers were better than cardigan style. We think the buttons could be an issue with the machinery. (I offered zipperd, too, but that didn't seem to be a preferred closure.) This is why he wants a vest rather than a long sleeve sweater-we don't want anything that could get caught in the power equipment.
So I'm just making a fast slipover vest to start with. Using up some ancient yarn from stash. I'm knitting it in the round until I split at the armholes. I'll probably do an other one down the road. I like knitting vests (no second sleeve syndrome). I have started the Escher Vest for him in Limbo (which is washable, too).
I finished my latest game (Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy) and it was a good one. Now I can play one of the games I got for Christmas. Matt started the Tom Clancy Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow last night. This is a great series of games. Emphasis is on stealth, not fighting. Problem is that I have to help him play, which makes knitting difficult.
Well, I'm off to the grocery store this morning. Blah. We've been under a blanket of fog for the last couple of days. Doesn't look like today is going to be any different. It's warm and dreary, but it looks like next week will be sunny and cold. This time of year it seems to work that way.I rather have the sun even if it means the cold comes with it. This fog is weird (and not a little disturbing). Hmmm. Maybe I should play a Silent Hill game...

Actually, I'm thinking I will use the sampler pattern as a base for a vest. The sampler cardigan is such a fun knit that I think I could whip up a vest pretty quickly. A good way to use up some of the icky Woolease from my stash (that I've decided I just don't like). It's washable and if it pills bad, who cares, it's just for him to wear around the house. Just like my Braids Cardigan. It's either going to be a sampler or the Sidecurl Cardigan Vest from the Fall 2004 issue of Twists & Turns. I just think maybe all the cables might take me a while. However, it would keep him nice and toasty. (hmmm, can't get Janet's site to load this morning so I can link to it... oooooh, maybe she's working on it and getting the spring issue up... like I need more projects, eh?-I'll try the links later this morning).
The problem is that the SCA KAL starts this weekend. Yes, I do have a bit of a headstart, but I really do want to get back to work on it. So many projects and only 1 set of hands. There's just simply too many things that I want to work on Right Now!!!
So I'm progressing a bit on the Matt's Sampler Cardigan and I worked a bit on the crochet afghan. Not much else. We're looking at more rain for the rest of the week (yesterday was sunny for a bit. Tried to enjoy it while it lasted. I do have some errands to run, but blah. I'ld rather stay in and knit (or crochet).
I updated my Blogroll with Joan's new site. Joan is a knitting buddy that started the East Coast Knit In. A truely fabulous knitter/designer and someone that actually has more UFO's than I do (but remember Joan: they're really just WIP's that we're not currently working on).
Hmm, let's see what else? Oh, Matt ordered my new laptop! I won't get it until the end of the month, as it's a custom job (so I could get the high end graphics card). Maybe this one won't freeze up 4-5 times a day. Won't that be nice?
As far as knitting? Well, I finished up the right front of Matt's Sampler Cardigan and I'm currently working on the left front. I did start an afghan too (it's going to be a quick crochet afghan). Jake has completely comandeered the Taste of Aran Afghan, so I need a quick cozy (and large) afghan for me to be able to use. I'm using my favorite Project Linus pattern and I'm already in my second skein.
Well, I think that's everything for here... now I'm off to update the SCA site and my gallery. Have a good Monday?
