| I think February has an inferiority complex. Why does it seem that we have to pack an entire 30 days into 28? Today is the last Tuesday of the month (large garbage day...). It's amazing how much 2 days change the entire month (oh, and wait, didn't I just pay all these bills???) Thanks to Joan, looks like I may be getting an other skein or two of the Wool in the Woods cotton yarn. Joan works at The Mannings and has been eyeing up the yarn there... better call today!!!??? Okay, so the first sock with the Tapestry yarn is cast off, but I'm going to pull back and add more ribbing (it's not as long as I thought it was). Here's a question to the sock knitters, specifically the toe up sock knitters: what's my best choice for binding off. The usual bind off isn't flexible enough. Am I just binding off too tightly (I tried very hard to keep it loose) or is there a bind off technique that works better? Using a dk weight yarn makes for a nice fast sock, that's for sure! I'm about 21" down the front of the Cozy Shawl Collared Pullover. I'm going to work the front to 24", then do the ribbing. I'm going to be keeping the ribbing fairly short, as I don't want it to suck in (I like my sweaters to hand loose around my hips). I'm guessing one more repeat is going to do it...???? I've got lots of laundry to do today, and that always makes for good knitting. |

| Let me just say that I think it is my solemn duty as a knitter to support as many yarn stores as I can. So our ChescoSnB (sUsAn, Rosie and myself) went on our second yarn crawl over the weekend. We first went to the Project Linus "Make a Blanket Day" and met lots of very dedicated people. I love this organization and admire the people who tirelessly work for it. I try to do what I can and always have an afghan (or two) in progress. It was fabulous to see the blankets collected (sUsAn did get a picture of the table o' blankets) and the turn out was great. They also had thank you notes from the kids and pictures of some with their blankets. A truely inspiraring experience. Then off to lunch, followed by a stop at The Yarnings. A boutique style yarn store with a nice collection of specialty yarns and some nice basics (lots of Debbie Bliss yarns). My purchase: |

| That's Wool in the Woods handdyed cotton yarn. The problem is that we could only find 3 skeins, so I only have 600 yds. Not a lot. I'm debating what I'm going to do with it (and no, I do not want a scarf or shawl. I'm thinking either a lacey vest or a simple tank top). I'm going to call them tomorrow just in case they found the 4th skein (their inventory showed that they should've had 4). Fingers crossed, maybe I'll luck out and get 800 yds... more than enough to open up my choices! Off we went to the Lamb's Wool. A very nice yarn store with a lovely variety of yarn, and the most Encore I've ever seen in one place!!! I bought 2 projects: |

Some Encore DK to make a yellow cardigan for Matt's cycling friend. He and his wife are expecting a second child and I thought it would be nice to do a "maillot jaune". I got the back done and I'm working the left side. Using my favorite Sidar baby sweater book. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Finally, the last purchase: some Tapestry 8 ply to make a pair of socks. I think I like knitting socks with larger yarn. I did a figure 8 toe up and short rowed the heel. Simple and easy. I love the figure 8 toe cast on. This may change my attitude about socks! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| So with all the new shiney toys that I obviously was playing with, no more progress on the Shawl Collared Pullover. Maybe I can finish up the current repeat today and maybe even get the front done this week. Well, off to toss some sheets in the washer and think about what to make for dinner. |
