I'm keeping this post short today. I'm completely engrossed in so much stuff, that this blogging thing is low priority.

I got an other repeat done on the Cable O's Vest. It's going to be a beautiful vest when done. Matt's really excited about it. I think the cotton will make for a very practical vest for him.

I decided the Cromarty is going to be a very s-l-o-w project for me. I can't memorize the cable patterns, so I'm constantly checking the charts, which really slows me down. So not even one repeat is done yet.

I did start the Cafe' Cardigan (btw: if you would like to sneak a peak at it, pop over to
Kristen's site). I'm using a peach cotton/alpaca yarn from stash (Cascade's Key Largo: a really really soft yarn). I'm still on the bottom border for the back. I think I have a dress cut out that the peach is going to go with (it's a georgette fabric that's white with peach colored flowers). I wonder if it would still fit me? Or if I can find it (or anything in my sewing room for that matter?)

I'm also still playing
Half Life 2. Can I just say that this game is better than Halo 2? Excellent!

So I'm really busy... so much to work on.... must get back to it all!

So that's a krappy picture of the Cable O's Vest from the spring issue of Twists & Turns. I'm using Elann's Enless Summer Sonata (100% cotton). Not too bad to work with, for a cotton, but I'm finding that I can only work a couple of rows before my hands start to get sore.

Kristen and I have decided the Cafe' Cardigan from the latest Cast On, is a must knit... I've already swatched (a lovely peach Key Largo from stash), just need to finish up a project so I have the empty needles.

Not much else to report: still playing
Half Life 2 (it went from gleefully fun to creepy and scary.. in a good way). Since they'll be globs of day baseball games on this afternoon, I'll probably spend the afternoon knitting (the reason I was so productive over the weekend? I actually watch the NFL draft. Both days...)

Tune in tomorrow to see what Cindy's Short Attention Span Knitting brings you for a new? project????

A few more rows done on Marilyn yesterday, but I spent most of my day playing Half Life 2. It's a much longer game than I expected, and a lot of fun.

I also finished up one of my birthday socks (I didn't get a good picture of it, so I'll wait until I get the other one done). I'm still working on making the "perfect fit" sock. My feet are short and a standard pattern doesn't work, so I've got to tweak a bit to get a nice fit. It's now a major quest... I'm close, and the sock is very wearable (more so than bought socks), but I want "perfect" and that's going to take some trial and error.

I received the new issue of
Cast On on Saturday. Wow, some really lovely things. A bunch of designs by Kathy Zimmerman and a little summer cardigan (by Ann E. Smith) that I'm definitely going to make. Just too many projects... especially since Matt is living in his Cables 101 Vest, I really need to get an other vest made for him (he's wearing it practically every other day...). I do have a cotton vest started for him (the Cable O's Vest from the spring issue of Twists & Turns... something he can wear this summer). Did I mention too many projects??????

I knew that once I got everything set up for Marilyn, the knitting would be a lot easier to deal with. It is. For those familar with the pattern: you'll notice the lack of bobbles. It's not that I completely dislike bobbles, but I'm particular about where and how many there are (I thought they worked really well on the Cables 101 Vest, but just didn't like them on this one). I replaced the bobbles with a moss stitch filler. So it's moving along. I think the stitch markers will be removed soon (they get in my way). I'll keep a few just so I contain some of the patterns, but I don't need all of them now that I can actually see the patterns. Have I mentioned how pretty this yarn is?

Speaking of yarn. I bought some of the
Knitpicks sportsweight cotton yarn to make a summer cardigan. The Orchid color is much pinker in person (I thought it was going to be a smidgeon more purply... not that I dislike the color I received, but it was slightly different). I told the yarn what it was going to be, but it didn't agree. All night I could hear it whine... "please swatch me for Cromarty*... I'm so beautiful with great stitch definition. I'm so soft that you can wear me next to the skin. Please just try me for Cromarty... you won't be sorry" All freaking night. So to shut it up, I swatched it.

Damn, if it wasn't right. It's perfect gauge (but a warning to anyone who wants to knit this: it seems huge until you have several cables rows done, those cables really draw the fabric in). The stitch definition is fabulous, it has a lovely drape and it is so soft (the yarn is a cotton/modal blend). Oh, and it's machine washable!!

*Cromarty is an Alice Starmore design that can be found in
The Celtic Collection. This book is no longer in print, but some places still have copies available (The Needle Arts Bookshop, for example). Remember that I do not copy patterns, so don't ask me to email or send you a copy of the pattern.
