I'm just cranking out these September Challenges!!! Oh, wait, it's October. Oh well, at least I'm getting some things done.
I have to say I'm thrilled with this project. It fits like a dream. It was a fun and fast knit (and cheap heeheehee). This is going to be one hard worn sweater, that's for sure.
Project Details: Pattern: Sampler Sweater by Sarah James Yarn: TLC Heather in French Lavender Changes to the pattern: I changed the top pattern to moss stitch from seed stitch. I also picked up and worked the sleeves top down. Problems with the pattern: I don't think there were any. Must admit, apart from numbers for casting on and ideas for sections, I didn't really follow it that closely.
Overall, this is one of my all time favorite patterns. I made the cardigan (in DK weight yarn) and this one is done in a heavy worsted (or Aran). Simple shaping, simple pattern stitches that change just as I get tired of them and it's a nice basic pattern. I'm sure that there will be more of these made (actually, I have a cardigan based on this pattern started for Matt in Cascade 220).
Okay, so that's one thing off the WIP list... now to work on something else... or cast on an other project??? |

Wow, these Challenges are so great. I've been so successful hitting every single goal I've set up for them. Okay, that's a blatent lie. In fact I've yet to accomplish any of my original goals for either of the last 2 Challenges.
So you may ask... "how are you doing for the October Challenge". I'm sucking at it, but thanks for asking.
I spent yesterday finishing up the first sleeve of the Sampler Pullover and I'm well into the second. Oh well, I had expected to finish it up for the September Challenge, so it'll be a little late, but at least I'll get it done.
Now about that October Challenge... I do have it out, I did do a couple of rows. Looking at it, I started the back and the left front (neither piece is finished. Don't ask me why). Here's a picture of the back so far: |

Ignore my picture taking shadow. It's now too dark in the morning to take pictures. I'm going to have to remember to do them in the afternoon. Oh, and of course I tried to manipulate the color to match, but didn't do a good job of that either.
So it's a chunky weight yarn, it's pretty simple and I actually have a good chunk of it done. It's not bad for a first project, but there are things I would do differently now if I were to start the project (different yarn would be top of the list) and I would be twisting my stitches. I still think I can get it mostly done this month... after I finish up the Sampler Pullover.

Thanks to everyone that left comments about the Baby Sweaters. They're now washed and ready for the new Mom.
I spent some time yesterday working with my blog. I use a graphics based program to do my pages. This has advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that it's a dumbed down version of Quark Xpress (which I used to use professionally when I worked as a layout artist). It's supposed to be a "what you see is what you get" program. However the disadvantage is that it converts your graphically laid out page into code. Not very efficient.
Well to be more consistant, I'm trying to use more code. So it's become a mixed bag of scripts and text boxes. That's why spacing can get a little funky with my page. So I combined some scripts and hopefully it will be at a minimum. Eventally I'll probably convert the whole thing to code... once I get more comfortable doing that.
Not much knitting done yesterday, so here's some eye candy. |

The Baby Sweaters are finished. (I'm having some coding isues with my blog that I'm going to try to fix today. So I had to link to the picture.... and the page might look funky on and off today).
The buttons are little roses (hard to see in the picture). I just looked, and I started them on Sept. 7, so it did take me a little less than 1 month to finish 4 baby sweaters. I think I'll still run them thru the washer and dryer before they're dropped off.
Project Details: Pattern: used a free pattern, with a little help from Rosie (as the pattern was very vague on some issues). Yarn: Bernat's Baby Soft (I really enjoyed using this yarn. Nice and soft) Pattern Changes: not much to change. Problems: well, apart from the fact I knit 4 of the exact same thing, the pattern was a little lacking. No sleeve length and some other incomplete issues. However, a simple, straight forward pattern that actually did make up pretty quickly. I enjoyed working with the yarn (except for the sleeves. Acrylic yarn and wooden needles don't always work well together).
So that's that done, no to move on to the next Challenge. I'll have pictures and updates on that project as well. I'm also going to try to finish up the Sampler Pullover this month. It's pretty close to finishing (halfway thru the first sleeve). |

I should have Baby Sweater #4 finished up tomorrow. I plan on getting the sleeves done today then I'll do all the finishing tomorrow (buttons and blocking). Then I can start on the October Challenge!
I did pull the Patons Pink Cardigan out of the closet on Friday and played with it a bit. First, looks like I don't have to start over. This is good, as I have a lot more done on it than I originally thought. However, I'm still not in love with the Norspun yarn. I'm going to go ahead and finish the sweater. The yarn is just too unevenly spun to give me an even stitch. It's a wonder I ever kept knitting after starting my first project with this yarn. It's frustrating to have all these knots and over spun sections.
So that's the plan for today. Finish the sleeves on Baby Sweater #4. If I have any time left over, I'll play with something else (maybe the Lasso Gansey Cardigan I cast on over the weekend?)
Oh, I did something else stupid over the weekend: I ordered the TKGA Master Knitter Level I... something I swore I would never do. However, Tori inspired me, so I'm going to give it a try and maybe it's time to take my knitting to the next level.
Have a great Monday!!! |
