Speaking of free patterns on the web...

Solutia no longer is doing fiber (they've filed for Chapter 11). They've shut down their fiber website. No more free patterns. It's a shame, as they had some lovely things. I really like the speed and result from the
Cables & Garter Pullover I knit for Matt. It was a fast knit and he wears that sweater all the time. They also had a lovely little sport weight lacey cardigan that I had planned on making. Sadly, I didn't save or print the patterns and now they're gone.

Lesson learned: when you see a free pattern that you like, save it to your harddrive or print it out.

As far as what I'm knitting: I'm not really doing much. Just playing with socks still, but I spent a lot of time yesterday with the demo disk from the
Official Xbox Magazine (OXM). 4 great demos and I've only played 2 (yeah! Tim Schafer has a new game coming out: Psychonauts and I spent over 2 hours just playing the demo!!!)

Tim Schafer is responsible for some of the greatest action adventure games ever published (
Full Throttle, the first couple of Monkey Island games and The Grim Fandango... maybe the best game I've ever played.) He's a quality over quantity writer and it shows.

Well, back to trying to fix some of these socks that I've started. Since I've finished one pair, maybe the good luck will continue and I'll be able to finish up a couple more...

Denim Socks
Just a quick post today, as  I don't really have much to update (I always seem to have longer posts on days that I say that...).

I did restart the Drifting Dreams Jacket. We'll call yesterday's entry "a large swatch" and move onto the "real" project.

The following is a complete rant:

I DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SHARE COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL. (hmmmm, did I shout that?). This is one of my pet peeves. I was an art major in college. I worked in publishing. I know, understand and respect copyright laws. People who make their living off the creative process have the right to their own material and to earn a fair wage. I'm sorry if a pattern is no longer in print (that does not mean that it is not copyrighted, btw!), but just because I have it does not mean that I will share it. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW to share copyrighted material. It would be equal to shoplifting. So don't bother asking, as I ain't sharing. I'll help with any sources I know of for a legal way of getting a pattern, but I will not break the law. End of rant.

Wow, that's not really what I was expecting to post about today. It just really rubs me the wrong way that people ask me to break the law. Since I have several projects in my UFO list from OOP Starmore books, I get requests for a copy of a pattern every once in a while. I even had a request for a readily available pattern (that cost $5) because the person couldn't afford the pattern. I refused and gave a source for a similar pattern available free on the web, but that one wasn't "good enough". Really, I'm done ranting now.

Jake seems to like the new socks.

I finished up the right front on the Drifting Dreams Jacket, but I didn't realize my row gauge was off (I'm lazy: I usually only check stitch gauge...). It's going to be 19" long finished. I'm debating if I should add some length. It's a very fast knit, so it's not a big deal to do add a few rows.
I'm using Lily's Sugarbabies yarn. A very soft 100% cotton in pastel colors. Very fast... but since I have yet "an other" problem, I'll probably end up putting it aside. Sigh. I'm trying to remember a project that went smoothly. Something I didn't have to fix or pull back or restart. I can't think of any. It can be a bit discouraging some days. However, as with any addiction, you put up with the bad because the rewards are so great.

Sadly, the Debbie Bliss yarn I ordered in on back order. Oh well, it's not like I need yarn to work on (or even start) a new project. I've got plenty here to play with (but a cotton cashmere tee shirt just sounds so yummy!)

I've joined a new blog ring. There's now a ring for those of us that love to do aran knitting!

Thanks to
Sunset Cat for setting up the ring! You can join by going here.

I finished up the denim socks (just need to weave in ends). I also started a project (now there's a surprise, eh?).????? I've started a
Drifting Dreams Jacket and it flies off the needles. I'm almost done with the right front. I'll get a picture up tomorrow. It's going to be a nice summery sweater! Meanwhile, my Diamond Patch is completely stalled. Not sure why. I'm on my 9th diamond and I just can't seem to get motivated to work on it. (I think I'm worried that it's going to be too cropped... yet I know that the bias structure will cause it to grow in length).

I bought myself a birthday present yesterday. Well, theoritically, it's actually a Christmas present, and theoritically my inlaws bought it for me. I decided to get some Debbie Bliss cotton cashmere DK with the gift certificate from
Halcyon Yarns. A complete splurge! I hope it works for the project I have in mind for it...

Oh, and
Nicole... the reason I didn't tell the story about the broken sock needle is that once you hear one boob breaking a sock needle story, you've heard them all...

Thanks so much for all the nice comments about the Cozy Shawl Collared Aran Pullover. The sweater washed up beautifully (however a note to Tori: it blocked open quite a bit). The yarn softened up so nicely. However, I didn't need to do the side panels, as it blocked open enough for me. I'll get pictures of me modeling it one of these days as well as the Cross Over Top.

So what have I been doing since I finished the SCA? Well, a little of this, a little of that, etc. I'm almost done with a pair of socks. Yes, I know, I don't have good luck with sock knitting, but one of these days I'll get a pair done that I like and can wear and won't felt. I have small, wide feet and buying socks is a nighmare (I usually buy boy's socks). My size 5.5 W feet just don't fit into women's socks. Anyway, I'm on the last heel of the
denim socks that I've been working on here and there and I've been working on an other simple, toe up, after thought heel sock.

More of the same type of knitting expected today. The weather has been beautiful and I'm in no mood to do any "wintery" projects, so I'll probably work on some of my summery projects today.

Here's just so I have a picture on my blog today:
