Knit Alongs

Starting TBD
Summer is winding down with August just around the corner. After August, we're officially into the fall. The fall is always the best time for knitting! So let's do a little summer house cleaning to get ready for the "knitting season".

I'm making the commitment of finishing 2 projects by the end of August. One of those projects will definitely be the Spring Forward Cardigan. The other will be a vest for Matt (I originally thought the Cable O's, but that's two high cabled projects in 4 weeks... and I'm already thinking that finishing the Spring Foward will be a challenge). We'll see how it goes and what's moving the best. I still think the Cropped Cardigan Redux might make the list, but I'm afraid I can't get 3 projects done in 4 weeks.

I would add that I won't start anything until those 2 projects are done, but we all know that ain't gonna happen. (I could start something and just not mention it here... but that would be cheating, wouldn't it?). So let's just say I'll try to keep the new projects to a minimum.

September I will get back to
Marilyn. Anyone who would like to join in the KAL, here's a great chance. You have all of August to get yarn/pattern/swatches, etc. Just go over to the KAL page and leave a tag if you want to join in!!!

First mini goal for the Spring Forward is to get the second sleeve done this weekend. That will give me the entire month of August to get the body done.

Well, this is a blog entry just for the sake of doing a blog entry... not much new to report. Still plugging away on the same ol' projects...

I did finish up the back for Marnie (the one button cardigan from
Hot Knits). I hit one of those "knit a repeat, measure, notice that it's EXACTLY the same length" phase. I'm not sure why, the body part went really quickly, then after the armhole shaping, it just got stuck. Anyway, it's done, I've cast on the right front, so it's progressing well.

A few more rows were done on the Flyingdales Cardigan and my "swatch" for the Town Square Cardigan is a little bigger.

I'm thinking that I need to do a little focus on finishing again. A lot of started projects, but not a lot getting done. I'm shooting for 2 finished projects by the end of August. A very realistic goal. Just need to focus a bit. Septemeber will be a return to some of my more woolie projects... specifically Marilyn!

Now I just have to decide which 2 projects can get finished by the end of August... the Cropped Cardigan Redux makes the most sense, as it's the closest to getting done, and I would love to have the Spring Forward finished... but I am fickle in my attention span, so we'll see.

Since I always start with my favorite, the Spring Forward Cardigan. The pictures were taken before I picked the second sleeve, which I've done and a few more rows. Lovely sweater, horrid picture. The light changed drastically during my photo shoot...these are listed in reverse of the order I took them. They'll get better.
Here's the back for the One Button Cardigan (It's actually called Marnie). I got quite a bit done on this on Saturday. Definitely good social knitting. Good short attention span knitting. Just good knitting.
The best picture in the bunch! The Flyingdales Cardigan. I'm really like this one, too. It's moving quickly, as the pattern is an other one of the easily memorized patterns. This is going to be a nice light weight jacket!

Oh, look... a swatch. A big swatch. A swatch that's exactly the same width as the back for the
Town Square Jacket by Melissa Leapman (54 from the latest Cast On)
Well, that's a lot of projects to play with again... too bad I'll probably spend the day playing God of War instead.

Thanks to Monday Morning Laziness, I have no pictures for today. So lot's of reading (and there will be a test later to see if you actually read it).

First, the Wowie Maui Chicken was a hit! Very yummy and very easy!!! Thanks again
Carissa!!!!

Saturday was a busy day. I went with
Rosie to Joan's retirement/birthday party. Had a really great time! Good company, good food and good knitting. I worked quite a bit on the One Button Cardigan and I'm at the armhole shaping for the back. This is great "visiting" knitting, as the pattern is easy to memeorize, but it changes enough to keep me interested.

Matt had a race. He did Mt. Nebo, and raced in the cat 4/5 again. He also finished 6th again (I did asked him if he can finish any other placement). This was out of 100 riders and the first time that he received a cash prize. He really only has one more race this year. I think the racing was a good idea. It's time consuming, as it does take a lot of training, but it has pushed him to the next level. He's learned a lot and I think we'll be doing some diet, workout changes over the "off season" which will benefit both of us. He should be a cat 4 next season, and that will make it tougher.

We did a birthday celebration for our neighbor, Bob last night. Nothing like a birthday feast... more good food and good company (no knitting, tho').

The lovely weather of the last 2 days is done, and the a/c will get turned back on. Sigh. I prefer my windows open, but it's just too damn hot and humid.

With The Tour over, I'll have a little withdrawl, as I always do. It was a good one this year and I'm sorry to see Lance retire, but I think it's perfect timing for him. I just hope that there will be enough interest in the other American cyclists (
David Zabriskie is a favorite here) that there will be coverage next year. Let's hope it's not like the other grand tours that we get only little highlights once a week.

Well, I got my
Cast On magazine and there are a few things in it that are possible projects (the felted bag is truely cool and there's a Melissa Leapman jacket that looks fast and fun and practical. Nice combination). Lot's to work on today. Update photos of projects tomorrow!
