Starting NOW!
Just a quick post today (well, at least I'm not taking the time to post pictures today).

The Fair Isle Tote is almost done. I have to finish the I-cord handles and line it. I steam blocked it yesterday... and here I was all worried about it puckering. Hurmph. It turned out beautiful. (let's all sing the praises of the mighty steam iron!) So beautiful that I ordered yarn to make an
other one from Black Water Abbey.

So I actually got further on it than planned yesterday, but that didn't keep me from completing my other goal: the Town Square Jacket is still on schedule as well. Today I will have the right front done!

I was so productive I even was able to start
Eris. I'm using Black Water Abbey for that one, too (in moss... the dark slate was just too dark for what I wanted). I'm not very far (the collar is a tight gauge, so it's a little slow going). All I have to say is that it's fun to see something so clever.

So today will be miles of I-cord and the right front of the Town Square Jacket. Any left over time will be with Eris. My plan is to have the tote finished by end of day tomorrow (and I have to clear a path to my sewing machine to make the lining).

Since I've discovered that I don't hate fair isle as much as I thought (thank you Mr. Steam Iron) I may pull out some old forgotten projects that need to be finished...
Zauberflote perhaps?

The thing I really like about doing fair isle is that you can really "see" the progress:

I'll have all the fair isle sections done today. Actually, I'm thinking I'll have the "bag" part done today. That only leaves the I-cord handles and lining. I may do a light felting on this just to dense it up a bit...

So that part of my August Challenge goals were met... as was the Town Square Jacket goal. I have 10" done on the right front. I should make it to the armhole shaping today. I'm sorry I'm not taking pictures of it. I'm using a dark green and they just don't look nice, so I'm not bothering. I'll get some pictures of it one of these days... maybe when it's done.

I swatched for
Eris last night. I have some blue slate Black Water Abbey yarn that is perfect for gauge*, but I'm not sure the dark color is going to show off the cables well enough. I may swatch one of the cable charts just to see if they "pop" enough for my taste.

Today's goals: finish up the bag of the Fair Isle tote and work the Town Square Jacket to the armhole insert. Play with Eris.

*this is always just an assumption, as no matter how careful I am with my swatchin process, it rarely tells me what my actual gauge is going to be....

I got all my August Challenge goals done for yesterday:

2 color bands done on the Fair Isle Tote (at the half way point
Joan suggested I work inside out for Fair Isle. That would loosen up my floats. What a great idea. I'm too far into this one to change it (and I think most of my problems will block out), but I'm definitely going to try that for the next one. As I know I'll be making an other one of these bags!

I finished the left front for the Town Square Jacket, too. I cast on the right front this morning and have a few inches done on it as well.

I also found some size 6 needles.

So today will be more of the same:

3 color bands on the Fair Isle Tote

10" on the right front of the Town Square Jacket

That's about it. I'm still suffering from the sunburn. I'm not able to sleep well, so I'm tired and groggy. I can't wait for this one to pass. Matt picked up some aloe spray that also has a topical pain killer in it. I don't see where it's really helping, but I'm following orders and using it. I guess it's just so I feel like I'm doing something. All I can say it's a good thing I was knitting when I got the burn, or I probably wouldn't be able to do it!!! I really can't do much else (even walking is painful). Ugh. Doesn't help that it's all my fault, so on top of the pain, I feel stupid.

Off to work on the Fair Isle Tote!
Monday, August 8, 2005 posted 8:57 AM EST
It was a busy busy weekend. First, let me say that the Spring Forward has been put aside. On Friday I got the second sleeve done, tried it on and the sleeves are way too tight. I swear I checked my gauge many many times... but I lie to myself when I want something to work. It's off. I may be able to wear it one day or I'll restart it. Again. Anyway, I simply don't want to deal with it right now. I'm moving on to other projects, then I'll come back to it. (I may break down, buy the Cotton Fleece the original was done it... maybe I'm trying too hard to make it in a different yarn?)

Anyway, that was on Friday and things got a lot better as the weekend progressed. I didn't want to work on a project that had "fitting" issues, so why not pull out a non clothing project. Like the Fair Isle Tote that I bought from
Black Water Abbey???
I still need a lot of practice with my fair isle knitting. I get a lot of puckering... but I just love it! (and no, sUsAn, that's not a mohair yarn, either... it's dog hair).

I also pulled out Matt's
Cable O's Vest and worked on the ribbing... whew, seems like a lot of ribbing, but I'm ready to move onto the body (just need to find some size 6 needles).

I took both of these projects with me to
The Mannings on Saturday for the Knit In. A wonderful day!!! (but I forgot my camera). Perfect weather, fabulous company, great knitting. Got to meet some knitters that I had "met" online as well as some others! I worked on the above projects, did a little shopping and even a little trading. (Joan and I switched copies of a book. Mine was a perfect bound, her's was spiral.. she hates the "squeaking" of a spiral bound book. So we're both very happy). I actually bought a book and some Cotton Fleece for a tee shirt. It was a long day, but oh so worth it.

Sunday I went with Matt to the second half of the
Tour de Christiana (that's Matt waving at me). He did the road race stage on Saturday (he finished 4th... best finish of the year). then early Sunday morning was the time trial and then Sunday afternoon was the criterium. His team completely dominated. They all placed high enough to get medals and one of his team members won the general classification (he won the road race, finished 4th in the time trial and finished 6th in the crit)
(okay, let me also say that Matt was a little freaked by this picture... he forgets that he's so much smaller than the other guys).

You will notice the hazy, overcast sky from the picture, right. It's hard to believe how much sunburn I got. I'm as red as a lobster today and in rather a lot of pain. Worse sunburn I've had since high school... and yes it's my fault. I poo-pooed sunscreen. Blah. Still it was fun to go to my first bike race. I truely enjoyed it (and I got a lot of knitting done). This was Matt's last race this season so I'm glad I went.

We then had dinner at friends to celebrate Matt's birthday. A wonderful and relaxing way to finish the weekend!

So today I'm going to be taking it easy, try not to touch anything and work on some projects. I need to decide what my 2 projects are going to be for the
August Challenge. I'm thinking this little tote bag might be one.

So today's goals:

two more "bands" of for the Fair Isle Tote

find a size 6 needle

finish the left front on the Town Square Jacket
